What’s Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese word for “Universal Life Energy”.  Pronounced as Ray, Ki, the first “Ray” part is spirit, the latter “Ki” means Energy.  It is one of the hands-on healing methods, in Japanese translation, Teate-ryouhou(手当て療法).   Reiki has been rediscovered by Mikao Usui at Mount Kurama-yama in Kyoto in 1920s.  Mr. Chujiro Hayashi has then practiced in Tokyo.  Mr. Hayashi then trained Hawayo Takata.  Mrs. Takata has introduced Reiki to the West through Hawaii.  My teacher John Gray was the longest-practicing Reiki Master Teacher in the US, and one of the original twenty-two Reiki Masters trained by Hawayo Takata.

Now the Reiki is widely known in the world and also is considered as alternative medicine and offered at hospitals, cancer centers, hospice and spas.  However, it is not meant to replace medical care when a condition requires a visit to the doctor. Reiki practitioners do not diagnose conditions, nor do they prescribe medicine or perform medical treatment. It is recommended that you see a licensed health care professional for any condition that you may have.
